The Joy of Working with Clients: Witnessing Change and Growth

The Joy of Working with Clients: Witnessing Change and Growth

One of the most rewarding parts of being a hypnotherapist is seeing people begin to recognise their own strengths and notice changes in how they feel, think and respond to everyday situations.

Every person I work with is different, and that's one of the things I enjoy most about my work. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, so our sessions are shaped around the individual, what they'd like help with and the changes they'd like to make.

That First Conversation

The initial consultation is an important part of the process. It's a chance for us to talk about what's been happening, what you'd like to be different and any questions you may have about hypnotherapy.

I also spend time explaining a little about how the brain responds to thoughts, emotions and stress. For many people, understanding more about what is happening can be helpful in itself. It can give them a different way of looking at their experiences and help things begin to make more sense.

Noticing Change

One of the things I love about working with clients is hearing about the small changes that start to happen between sessions.

Sometimes it's feeling more confident in a situation that previously felt difficult. Sometimes it's sleeping better, feeling calmer, coping differently with stress or noticing that something that once seemed overwhelming doesn't have quite the same hold.

These changes don't always happen in a straight line, and everyone progresses differently. But noticing those moments when someone realises that they are responding differently can be incredibly rewarding.

Building Confidence and Independence

For me, the aim of hypnotherapy isn't for someone to feel that they need me forever. It's about helping people recognise their own strengths and develop ways of responding that they can take with them into everyday life.

As people begin to notice what they are capable of, they often become more confident in handling situations that once felt difficult.

Knowing that someone feels ready to move forward independently is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Why I Love What I Do

My background has always involved supporting people, particularly children, young people and families. Becoming a solution-focused hypnotherapist gave me another way to help people focus on the changes they would like to make.

I never take it for granted when someone chooses to share their experiences with me. Whether I'm working with an adult, teenager or child, I feel privileged to be part of their journey.

Every client brings something different, and every journey is different. That's what makes this work so interesting and rewarding.

If you're considering hypnotherapy and would like to find out whether it might be right for you, the initial consultation gives us an opportunity to talk things through and decide whether we'd be a good fit to work together.

Neuroscience

The Link Between Neuroscience and Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy

Have you ever wondered why you can know something logically but still find yourself reacting with anxiety, stress or fear?

One of the reasons can be found in the way different parts of the brain work together. Neuroscience has helped us understand more about how our brains respond to thoughts, emotions and situations, and this understanding forms an important part of solution-focused hypnotherapy.

Understanding the Brain

A simple way of thinking about the brain is to consider the difference between our more instinctive responses and the part of the brain involved in conscious thinking and problem-solving.

When we feel threatened, stressed or overwhelmed, the brain can move into a more protective mode. This can affect the way we think, feel and behave. We might find ourselves reacting quickly, worrying about what could go wrong or finding it difficult to think clearly.

At other times, when we feel calmer and more settled, we're better able to use the parts of our brain involved in planning, problem-solving, perspective and making considered decisions.

This doesn't mean that there are simply two separate parts of the brain working independently. The brain is complex, with different areas working together all the time. However, this simple way of looking at things can help us understand why our responses can sometimes feel automatic.

Where Does Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy Fit In?

Solution-focused hypnotherapy combines an understanding of the brain with a focus on the future and the changes you'd like to make.

During hypnosis, you enter a relaxed and focused state. This can provide an opportunity to step away from some of the distractions of everyday life and focus your attention on helpful ideas, thoughts and possibilities.

Rather than concentrating heavily on what's gone wrong, solution-focused hypnotherapy encourages you to think about where you'd like to be and what you'd like things to look like when things are better.

Over time, paying attention to different ways of thinking and responding can help you develop more helpful patterns in everyday life.

Understanding Can Be Helpful

For many people, simply understanding a little more about how the brain responds to stress and emotion can be useful.

It can help explain why you might sometimes react in ways you don't expect, why worrying can be difficult to switch off, or why knowing something logically doesn't always change how you feel.

Understanding doesn't mean that you are stuck with these responses. The brain is capable of learning and adapting throughout life, and this is one of the reasons that practising different ways of responding can be helpful.

A Practical Approach

Solution-focused hypnotherapy isn't about trying to control your brain or simply thinking positively.

It's about understanding more about how you respond, recognising your existing strengths and focusing on the changes you'd like to make.

By combining this understanding with hypnosis and practical, solution-focused techniques, sessions can provide an opportunity to look at things differently and begin moving towards your preferred future.

Solution-Focused Walking Therapy: A Different Way to Experience Hypnotherapy

Sometimes sitting indoors and talking face-to-face doesn't feel like the most natural way to have a conversation.

Walking side-by-side can feel more informal, and being outdoors can provide a change of environment while you talk about the things you'd like to change.

Solution-focused Walking Therapy combines therapeutic conversation with gentle movement and the principles of solution-focused hypnotherapy.

What is Solution-Focused Walking Therapy?

Walking Therapy involves having a solution-focused conversation while walking outdoors.

Rather than spending lots of time exploring problems or what has gone wrong, the focus is on where you'd like to be, what you'd like things to look like when things are better, and the small steps that could help you move towards that future.

Walking side-by-side can also feel different from sitting opposite someone. For some people, being outdoors and moving while talking can make the experience feel more relaxed and informal.

Why Choose Walking Therapy?

Walking Therapy may suit you if you:

  • Prefer being outdoors rather than sitting indoors
  • Find that walking helps you feel more comfortable and relaxed
  • Enjoy spending time in nature
  • Would like to combine therapeutic conversation with gentle movement
  • Prefer a more informal approach to your sessions

You don't need to be particularly fit or an experienced walker. The focus is on having a comfortable conversation while walking at a pace that suits you.

A Different Environment

Being outside can provide a change of scenery and a chance to step away from the usual routines of everyday life.

For some people, having a conversation while walking feels more natural than sitting in a traditional therapy setting. It can give you something around you to notice and focus on while we talk, rather than feeling as though you have to sit and concentrate on the conversation alone.

The important thing is finding an approach that feels comfortable for you.

A Solution-Focused Approach

Walking Therapy follows the same forward-looking principles as my solution-focused hypnotherapy.

We'll focus on what you'd like to be different, what is already working for you and the small changes that could help you move towards your preferred future.

The conversation is shaped around you, your circumstances and what you'd like to achieve.

How Does It Work?

Walking Therapy takes place locally and is available by arrangement.

If you're interested, get in touch and we can discuss whether Walking Therapy would be suitable for you, where we'd meet and what you'd like support with.

Walking Therapy is offered as a local service and is separate from my online hypnotherapy appointments.

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and stress can affect how we think, feel and respond to everyday situations. Sometimes it can feel as though your mind is constantly busy, you're worrying about what might happen, or you're finding it difficult to switch off.

Solution-focused hypnotherapy can provide a practical way to look at what's happening and focus on the changes you'd like to make.

How Can Hypnotherapy Help With Anxiety?

When we're experiencing anxiety, our brain can become more focused on potential problems and things that might go wrong. This can affect our thoughts, feelings, sleep, confidence and the way we respond to situations.

During sessions, we'll look at what's happening for you now and what you'd like to be different.

Rather than spending lots of time going over what's gone wrong in the past, solution-focused hypnotherapy encourages you to think about where you'd like to be and what you'd like things to look like when things are better.

Hypnosis provides a relaxed and focused state where you can be more open to helpful ideas and suggestions, while remaining aware of what's happening and in control throughout.

Supporting You With Stress

Stress is something we all experience from time to time, but when it begins to feel difficult to manage, it can affect many areas of everyday life.

You might notice that you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling to switch off, sleeping poorly or finding it harder to cope with situations that you would normally manage.

Understanding a little more about how the brain responds to stress can be helpful. It can give you a different way of looking at what you're experiencing and help you recognise some of the things that may be keeping your stress response going.

Sessions then focus on practical changes and the ways you'd like to respond differently.

A Personalised Approach

There isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to anxiety or stress.

Your sessions are shaped around you, what you'd like help with and the changes you'd like to make. We can look at what's already working, your existing strengths and the small changes that could help you move towards your preferred future.

Some people may be looking for support with general anxiety or stress, while others may be dealing with a particular situation, fear, confidence issue or change in their circumstances.

The important thing is that we start with you and what you'd like to change.

Online Hypnotherapy Across the UK

Stay Well Hypnotherapy is now primarily an online service, allowing me to work with adults, children and teenagers across the UK.

Sessions take place via Google Meet, from somewhere quiet and comfortable in your own home.

If you're considering hypnotherapy for anxiety or stress and aren't sure whether it might be right for you, the initial online consultation gives us an opportunity to talk things through, answer your questions and decide whether we'd be a good fit to work together.
